As part of Transform 66, construction activities for a new park access road at the Ellanor C. Lawrence Park began on June 18th to provide access to the park when the existing traffic signal and entrance from Route 28 are eliminated.
Roadwork will also include a new Poplar Tree Road across Route 28 connecting to the new park access and Stonecroft Boulevard (expected to begin later this year). Detailed information about this project can be found on the Transform 66 website.
The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project will transform Northern Virginia’s Interstate 66 into a multimodal corridor that moves more people, provides reliable trips and offers new travel options. The project is a public-private partnership between the VDOT, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), and private partner, I-66 Express Mobility Partners, delivering $3.7 billion of transportation improvements in the I-66 corridor. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2022.
